Gary James Hess

Gary J. Hess, 63, of Millcreek, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, surrounded by his family at UPMC Hamot.

He was born on April 20, 1960, a son of the late Thomas and Janet Neff Hess. Gary graduated from Central Tech High School in 1978. He went on to work in the building maintenance industry throughout the years, most recently at PennDot. 

Gary enjoyed his coaching years, golfing, going on the guy's fishing trips to Canada, playing in his summer softball leagues, volunteering at Saturday night Bingo at The Zukor Club, and taking his boat out for a ride on Lake Erie with his family. But his favorite thing of all was “holding down the couch”. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, then you experienced the joy his sense of humor brought to everyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Kohler, and a sister-in-law Cynthia Hess.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kim Kohler Hess; two daughters, Shannon (JP) and Allison Hess (Braden); his siblings, Jeanne Chapman (Richard), Michael Hess, Erin Glover (Daniel), Leighann Hess and Timothy Hess (Veronica); sisters-in-law, Molly Kohler (Joe), and Kathy Kurpiewski (Chris) and a brother-in-law, Terry Kohler (Lois). He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Wintergreen: 2532 Norcross Rd, Erie, PA 16510 on Friday, February 9th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
