Frederick William Kruse died peacefully in his sleep on October 24, 2021 in his home in Fairview.
Fritz Kruse was 97. He was born on September 24, 1924, the third oldest of seven siblings, the sons and daughters of Henry G. and Hattie Kruse.
Fritz was born on the Kruse farm on Van Camp Road where he lived and experienced the challenges of the great depression. The Kruses ate and lived well on the farm and were able to give food to their friends who visited them from Erie. Frederick attended Fairview schools and graduated in 1943. He worked for a time at Titan Tool and learned the plumbing trade while working for his father-in-law at Earl Vigrass Plumbing and Heating. His many skills made him effective in performing maintenance at Parker White Metal Company. Later he was head of maintenance for the Fairview School District for almost 20 years. Fritz Kruse will be remembered as an earnest, hard working man, who was always valued for his expertise and his judgment. He was friendly and always ready to help people.
Fritz was an elected member of the Fairview Borough Council until Fairview consolidated with Fairview Township in 1997. He served on the Board of the Fairview Township Sewer and Water Authorities for many years.
Fritz built the two family houses he lived in, one in 1950 and one in 1980. He bought a small farm on Van Camp Road in about 1980 and enjoyed returning to his farming roots for many years. He had a good second marriage and enjoyed traveling with his wife Peg and his step daughter Kristyn. In his final years he was lovingly cared for by Gerry Swartzfager, Joyce Dion, Kristyn Wykoff and especially by Sarah Dieteman who made a huge positive difference in his final months.
Fred is survived by his son David of Eugene, Oregon and by his sister Esther Kuntz of Girard, as well as by two grandchildren, Denny Scott Kruse and Lindsey Kruse, both of Tucson, Arizona and a great grandson, Jayden as well as step children Kristyn, Glenn and Gregg Wykoff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years Kathleen Campi, by his wife of 27 years Margaret Kruse and by his son Dennis Kruse, and by his siblings Dot (Dorothy Randall), Earle, Don, Rich and Tootie (Betty Jane Cassell).
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street in Girard on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Friday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
