Frederick Johnston

Frederick A. Johnston, 91, of Erie, passed away, on Friday, May 13, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor.  He was born on January 21, 1926 in Monessen, Pennsylvania a son of Merle Johnston and Sarah Clark Johnston.   He married his wife, Judith A. Goetzinger on August 12, 1961, she survives.

He attended Latrobe High School in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having serving as a mechanic, he was a diesel mechanic for Beckwith Machinery for 35 years retiring in 1988, previously he did demolition work for Jerry Quirk Construction.

Fred was a member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, Siebenbuerger Club and the International Graham Club, former member of the Maennerchor and Elks Clubs.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars especially his 1933 Graham, his second home in Nokomis, FL where he and his wife enjoyed spending seven months of each year.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judith of Erie; two daughters, Barbara Taylor and her husband, James of Spring, TX and Pamela Ferrero and her husband Greg of Derry, PA; a son, Frederick Johnston, Jr. and his wife, Roberta of Perry, OH; four granddaughters, Cheryl Whitten and her husband, Paul of Chardon, OH, Kimberly Johnston of Chardon, OH, Jessica Ferrero of Pittsburgh, PA, Julie Marker and her husband Scott of Greensburg, PA; great-granddaughter, Iris Whitten; a sister, Nancy Smith; a sister in law and brother in law, Frank and Nancy Enas of Erie.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Johnston.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at SCOTT FUNERAL HOME, 2104 Myrtle Street, Erie with Reverend Allie Leitzel of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will be private at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, PA.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Erie VA Medical Center, 135 E 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
