Frederick Fiedler

Frederick John Fiedler age 78, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 after a short stay at Manchester Commons in Fairview, Pa.

He was born in Erie on February 10, 1935, a son of the late Frederick R. and Nancy Kulic Fiedler.

Fred, “Fearless Fred” or “Duke” as he was known to his friends, graduated from Tech high School in 1953 and went on to serve in the United States Army in Korea.

He worked for many years in the Banking and Finance Industry before switching careers to becoming a trucking company sales representative.

Fred will be forever remembered by the people he touched for his incredible sense of humor. He had the uncanny ability to remember millions of jokes, pull them out at just the right time and deliver them perfectly with a smile.

He will be greatly missed by all but especially his lifelong best friend Donald H. Knapp of Wheaton, IL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dolores Zalas Fiedler, and a sister Monica Fiedler Lyons.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Fiedler of Erie; two sons, Fred Fiedler and his wife Teri of Fairview and Steve Fiedler of Purcellville, VA; five grandchildren, Derick and Austin Fiedler of Fairview, and Christopher, Michael and Andrew Fiedler of Purcellville, VA; a brother, William Fiedler and Kathleen of Chester, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street Erie, PA 16506 on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. are invited to attend a service there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ted Marconi officiating.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
