Frederick Buchner

 Frederick R. Buchner, age 87, of Erie went Home to his Lord, Sunday April 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Erie, February 1, 1930, son of the late Fred and Irene Zimmer Buchner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Michael Buchner.

He attended Academy High School and served as Master Sergeant in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Fred worked for the family business Buchner and Son Ice Company, and for many years he was president and co-owned and operated a painting and decorating company, Contractors Decorating Service.

He loved sports, was an avid golfer at Elk Valley where he was president of the senior golf league. He also enjoyed baseball, football, wrestling and bowling. He was a member of First Alliance Church for over 30 years serving as an Usher, leader of the Sunday morning greeters and served on the Mercy team. He was also a member of Koinonia of Erie County, Zukor Club and the Girard American Legion Post 494.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Elsie Amsden Buchner, his children; Cindy (Tony) Sweeney of Erie, Brian (Sheryl) Buchner of Lake City, Laurie (Bob) Buzas of Erie and Linda (Sonny) Hamilton of Erie. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Amanda (Bryan), Matthew, Kelsey, Chris (Meghan), Calyn (Marissa), Cory, Danny and Mike and his great-grandchildren; Michaela, Brianna, Kiersten, Elijah, Madison and Jack. He is also survived by a sister Sharon (Ted) Weed, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Friends may visit with the family at First Alliance Church (2939 Zimmerly Road Erie PA 16506) on Saturday May 13^th from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Family and friends are invited to please join his family for a Celebration of Fred’s Life at 12:00 noon. Full Military honors will follow outside the church after the celebration.
