Frederic Bohn

Frederic Erich Bohn, age 83, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center surrounded by family, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Fred was born in Erie on January 3, 1930, the only child of the late Erich M. and Mary H. (Kelly) Bohn.

He was a 1948 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, a graduate of the Mason Felix School of Cosmetology of Pittsburgh and served 3 years in the United States Coast Guard.

Fred built a successful career in downtown Erie as a hairdresser over a period of 50 years. Many of those years he spent working alongside his father, Erich, also a hairdresser.

He was a member of the Zem Zem Temple Shrine and longtime member of the Zem Zem Kiltie Band, playing the bagpipes for many years. Fred was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Erie, and the Lawrence Lodge No. 708 F. & A. M.

Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Hood Bohn; five children and their spouses, Gretchen (Dale) Spinelli of Brighton, Colorado; Jim (Kathy) Bohn of Mequon, Wisconsin; Laurie (Tom) Callaghan of Erie; Lexie (Don) Staton of Fairfax, Virginia and Erich Bohn of Lakewood, Colorado; as well as 15 grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm and are invited to the service on Friday at 10:00 am at Luther Memorial Church 225 West 10th Street Erie, Pa. 16501 with Pastor William Coleman officiating.

Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital of Erie 1645 West 8th Street Erie, Pa. 16505 or Luther Memorial Church.
