Fred Michael DeLuca, 89, passed away Friday, December 24th at St. Vincent Hospital. He was surrounded by family at his favorite time of the year.
Fred was born in Erie on May 19, 1932, a son of the late Frank and Assunta “Sue” Biancasino DeLuca. He was a 1950 graduate of Cathedral Prep, and went on to serve in the United States Air Force until 1954. After returning, he received his degree in accounting from Gannon University in 1958.
He was a Public Accountant and owned the Fred M. DeLuca Tax Accounting in Erie for many years. He also served for many years as the Chairman of the Board of the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, as well as on the Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission.
Fred was a lifelong and fervent Boston Red Sox fan, and loved slow-pitch softball and bowling. He was a dedicated member of PROBUS, and also a devoted member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved twin brother William, and his older brother Vincent. He is survived by his two daughters, Darlene A. Giblin and her husband Thomas of Fairview, and Michele M. DeLuca of Estero, Florida; three grandchildren: Thomas J. Giblin and his wife Jennifer of Maplewood, New Jersey; Brett M. Giblin, M.D., of Burlington, Vermont; Courtney L. Giblin of Ft. Worth, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn M. Giblin, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services at West Ridge, 3801 West 26th St., on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Friends are invited to a prayer service Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1617 Walnut St. in Erie, with Deacon Anthony Alleruzzo Celebrant. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cathedral Preparatory School or the Alzheimer’s Association.
