Frances (“Frannie” or “Fran”) Patricia Burgoyne Burt, age 82, passed from this world into the next, Monday, November 27, 2017.
Frances was born January 24, 1935 in Erie, Pennsylvania, attended St Patrick’s Elementary School, St Benedict Academy (1953) and Villa Maria College (1961) and completed internships with the Barber Center. She earned Master of Science in Education, with Special Education Certificate, and Master of Social Work degrees from Syracuse University. She remained in Syracuse for the next 20 years, teaching in special education classrooms. She returned to Erie in 1980 when she married Daniel H. Burt on June 27, 1980.
Frances was a lifelong learner. She and Dan regularly took educational travel vacations throughout the United States with Roads Scholar and Chautauqua Institute programs. As a young woman, Frances inherited her mother’s gift as a seamstress, sewing her own clothes and interior design accessories. In her retirement years, Frances returned to sewing, becoming an accomplished quilter. She also pursued ceramics and singing in the Sisters of St Benedict Choral. She and Dan owned a sailboat and they hosted many Lake Erie sailing outings with family and friends. They also opened their vacation home on Lake Ontario, in Fairhaven, New York to family and friends. Fran and Dan were masters at hospitality, entertaining guests with excellent food, drink and storytelling.
Frances is predeceased by her husband, Daniel H. Burt, mother, Rosella Cauley Burgoyne (Erie), brothers Leo J. Burgoyne (Erie) and Bernard J. Burgoyne (Mesa, AZ), and sisters Joanne Burgoyne (Erie) and Rosella Burgoyne Zaborac (Seattle, WA).
She is survived by her step-children William (Janna) Burt (Edinboro, PA), Barbara (Dave) Danylko (Florida), Ann (Glenn) Ebert (Erie), and Mary Alice (Tim) Stewart (Cochranton, PA) and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Frances’ family thanks her caregiver, Katrina Edge, for her expertise and compassion in caring for Frances the last several years. They would also like to thank her trusted friend and advisor Attorney Thomas J. Buseck and his paralegal Julie Pecoraro for their friendship and invaluable assistance and the staff of St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge and Great Lakes Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Frances.
