Floyd Hermansen, 89, of Fairview died December 10, 2023. He was born in Erie on December 3, 1934, son of the late Ole and Gunda Hermansen. He was a 1954 graduate of McDowell High School and served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 and again in 1961 until 1962.
He worked at PermaStone and Erie Forge & Steel and retired in 1997, after working for 33 years at Lord Corporation where he worked as a prototype operator in the special-order department. He read the water meters in Fairview Boro in the late 60’s. He drove school bus for the Fairview School District and for Solvedt Enterprises Inc.
He was a long-time member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where he was head usher and trustee for many years and served on other committees. He later became a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and currently was a member at Lakewood United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong Fairview resident. Many will remember him as a kind, gentle giant, but he was always active in his community and loved attending his children and grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer, bowler including the grandpa’s league, playing cornhole and pitching horseshoes. For many years he participated in the state Senior Olympics where he competed in many events such as shuffleboard, bowling, horseshoes, darts, track and field and brought home many metals in most events. He even went to the National Senior Olympics for shuffleboard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Hermansen, and three sisters, Ruth Laudenschlager, Betty Rainone and Elsie Anselment.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Wilma “Manchester” Hermansen; a daughter, Denise “Hermansen” Musante and husband Rick of Fairview; a son, Gary Hermansen and wife Ruth “Henderson” of Mansfield, PA; four grandchildren, Kaylie “Musante”, Baldensperger and husband Jacob of McKane, PA; Kyle Musante and wife, Rebecca of Grand Rapids, MI; Cody Hermansen and Andy Hermansen of Mansfield, PA; and a great grandchild Ellie May Musante. Further survived by; a sister-in-law, Nancy Cederlof of Fairview; many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St., Girard, Wednesday December 20th from 2:00 – 6:00pm and are invited to attend a service there Thursday December 21st at 11:00am.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with full Military Honors.
