Florence Marie Szabo, age 78, of Erie, passed away Monday September 21, 2015 following a lengthy illness at UPMC Hamot. Florence was the daughter of the late Lucille and Michael Hlebovi.
Florence was born in Erie on May 6, 1937 and graduated from East High School. She worked for Loblaws for 37 years before retiring. After retirement, she and her husband owned the Colonial Bakery from 1990 until 1997. Baking and cooking were a true passion of Florence’s. She also loved to shop and go to the casino and play the slot machines. Florence was a Local 1 UFCW Retiree and a proud member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church.
Florence is survived by her son, Louis Szabo and a sister Theresa (Bob) Zaborowski. She is further survived by brother-in-law Joseph Kobierecki, sister-in-law Joyce Kieklak, good friend and care giver Patricia Wolfe, several nieces and nephews, and the love of her life; her dog, Corey.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years Louis Szabo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Julia Tomczak, sister Mary Ann Kobierecki, and brother Thomas Kieklak.
Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd, on Thursday from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, 629 Hess Ave., at 11 am on Friday with Father O’Hara officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
