Florence Haffley

Florence G. Miller Haffley, age 97 passed away at Walnut Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Erie on April 21, 2022.

She was born in Cross Keys, Blair County PA, on January 30, 1925, a daughter of the late Harvey B. and Catherine Stiffler Miller.

Florence graduated from Hollidaysburg High School.

During WWII, she did inventory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. She had worked for Sylvania Electric in Altoona, PA as an inspector; and had also worked as a caregiver for various families throughout the Erie area.

Florence was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where she served as a church sexton and belonged to Fraven Verein Ladies Society. She was a former member of Chapter 21 Order of Eastern Star and served as Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls Erie 8.

Florence was an avid gardener and enjoyed crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dale R. Haffley whom she married in 1951; a son, Aaron D. Haffley; a granddaughter, Samantha Haffley; two step-grandsons Nicholas Saldutti and Christopher Watkins; four sisters and four brothers.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Sherrill Grygier (Steve) and Karol Campbell (Eric) all of Erie; her sons, George Kirkland (Priscilla) of Apex, NC, Dennis Haffley (Chrystal) of Albion and Dwayne Haffley (Heidi) of Meadville and daughter in law, Karen Haffley of Erie.  She is further survived by a sister, Betty Pyle of Oxford, PA; 23 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and dear friend Chiara Wawrzyniak.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Florence’s life service on Saturday, August 21 at 1:30 P.M. at Pleasant Ridge Park, 8271 Barker Rd., Girard, PA 16417.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 W. 8^th St. Erie, PA 16505.
