Evelyn Cicero Skovron, age 99 of Erie, passed away peacefully at Forestview on November 19, 2014. She was a previous resident of Millcreek. Evelyn was born Ermelinda Mafalda Cicero July 12, 1915, in SanLucido, Italy, the daughter of the late Guiseppe & Antoinette Chimenti Cicero. At the age of five, she arrived in Erie with her mother to join her father who was already working in Erie. Evelyn attended East High School & the Ora Jean Beauty Academy. She was a well-known hairdresser in downtown Erie for many years where she owned her own salon. She naturally became good friends with many of her customers. She was also a Cosmetology State Examiner for the State of Pennsylvania. Evelyn was a member of the Erie Maennerchor Auxillary.
When Evelyn was not working, or enjoying time with her family, she was spending Sunday afternoons “antiquing” and attending auctions in the Westfield, NY area where she met up with other antique enthusiasts. She was a knowledgeable and avid collector with a great eye for the unusual. For years Evelyn helped her daughter, Susie, with her estate and household sales in Erie, and was well-liked and respected by everyone. “In memory, there is life”, and we will remember Evelyn as a hardworking, full of energy and adventurous lady. She was a good listener and a dear friend to many. She loved her family and was very proud of their accomplishments.
Since October of 2010, Evelyn resided at Oakview Assisted Living at Springhill in an apartment. She recently moved to Forestview Skilled Care. Evelyn's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Oakview and Forestview for their loving care of Evelyn during her stay. The staff's kindness will always be much appreciated.
