Evelyn Edith Comeau, 86, of Erie, PA passed away on August 28th at her home surrounded by her family who loved her very much. Evie, as all of her friends called her, was born May 21,1930 in Erie, Pa, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Edith Kallenbach. Evie married Jack Comeau on July 1, 1949. They spent over 67 wonderful years together raising their two children, running their landscape business, and taking care of each other in their later years. The love and devotion that Evie and Jack had together was very special and noticed by all.
In her younger years, Evie enjoyed doing bookwork for her family's florist business (Kallenbach Florist), and after she and Jack married, she managed their business for over 50 years, Comeau Landscape. She was proud to tell people that she lived in 5 houses in a one block area. Evie was always glad to help others, whether it be taking them shopping or to appointments, or a thoughtful phone call to let them know they were loved. She also regularly enjoyed early morning tea at McDonalds or Panera with family and special friends.
Before Evie became ill, she was very active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed the volunteer bible education work and loved discussing the scriptures with interested ones. She firmly believed in the Bible's promise of a resurrection hope. (John 5:28,29) She looked forward to a time when loved ones will be awakened from their peaceful sleep, to perfect health, and believed God's kingdom rule will restore the Earth to a paradise condition where death will be no more. (Rev. 21:3,4).
Evie is survived by her husband Jack, daughter Darcie Marzec (Timothy), son Tracy Comeau (Tracy), sister Donna Strong (Dave), brother Dale Kallenbach (Mary Ann). Grandchildren, Vanessa Esquibel (Alex), Yvonne White (Stephen) and great grandchildren Micah and Quincy White. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and many dearly loved friends. Evie also had a very special bond with three friends that were close to her heart; Shirley, Nina and Shirley. Evie had a very kind and caring Great Lakes Hospice nurse, Janet who cared for her over the last year. When we think of Evie and the beautiful memories made with her, we will remember Evie with a smile, as she always had a warm smile for everyone she met.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 2nd at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue). Visiting time with Evie's family will begin at 4pm until the time of a memorial talk given at 6 pm. Dan Banach will be officiating. Burial will be private for the family at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, Evie preferred a donation be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach Street #244, Erie, PA 16501 or to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of NY, Inc.. Donation can be made online at www.JW.org.
