Evelyn M. Meldon Colvin, age 84, of Erie, PA and Naples, Florida, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Naples.
She was born in Erie on October 11, 1928, a daughter of the late James L. and Evelyn Meldon.
She was a graduate of St. Peter's Cathedral School, Villa Maria High School and attended Mercyhurst College and St. Mary's College in Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral.
A devoted wife and mother, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing bridge, reading and gardening. She also excelled at successfully completing challenging crossword puzzles. Following her husband's retirement in 1990, the Colvin's relocated to Naples, FL while still enjoying their summers in their beloved hometown of Erie, where they were both born and raised.
Her warm smile will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann E. Colvin Chidsey; her devoted sister, Sr. Mary Margaret, SSJ, who passed away in January, 2013, sister, Mary Longaker and brothers, Thomas and James Meldon.
She is survived by her husband Charles Colvin, Ed.D who taught at Gannon College before serving as Chairman of the Department of Education SUNY Fredonia, whom she married in 1951; two sons, Christopher Colvin, a retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral and his wife, Kristin of Colorado Springs, CO; Daniel Colvin, PGA, head golf professional and Director of Golf at Fisher's Island Club, and his wife, Aimee of Old Lyme, CT; daughter, Mary K. Colvin, Ph.D, RN, an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Barry University, Miami, FL; six grandchildren, Meagan, Mark, Grayson, Daisy, Danielle and Cassandra. A brother, Eugene Meldon of Grand Junction, CO, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at St. Peter's Cathedral at 10:30 am.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
