Evangeline “Vangie” Kazmierski, of Erie, Pa, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Born on the 3rd of November 1920, in Erie, Pa, the third of ten girls, to Anna and John Filipczak, Vangie was 100 years old at the time of her passing.
Evangeline Filipczak was born “Wanda”. It was only when her mother enrolled her in school that the nuns said there was no such name and to select another – she became Evangeline.
Growing up in a family of 10 girls was a challenge and it took a toll on her mother but also on her father who worked in the coal mines. They both died in their early forties and the girls lovingly took care of each other.
Vangie did her part to help the family and worked at Sanida Dairy selling ice cream while in school. It was there she met Frank and the two dated for 4 years. Frank went off to war and Vangie again did her part working for the war effort at GE.
She married Frank Joseph Kazmierski in 1947 and they were married for 44 years. Frank and Vangie were members of Holy Rosary Church for over 40 years. After Frank’s passing Vangie moved across town and became a member of Our Lady of Peace.
Blessed with good health, Vangie led a comfortable life as wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, listening to Polish music, satisfying her sweet tooth for candy, cookies and ice cream, and watching all types of sports on TV.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judi Burleson and husband Ron of Houston, Tx, Nancy Romba and husband Michael of Waterford, Pa., and sister Lorraine Hellman of Franklin, Pa. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank and sisters: Nellie Lagner, Pauline Skrzypek, Helen Kwiatkowski, Ann Przychodzien, Josephine Danowski, Jean Kirby, Joanne Anderson, and Mary Jane Markiewicz.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 2401 W. 38th St. followed by a mass. Cemetery services will be conducted following the mass, at Gate of Heaven Chapel, 5711 West Lake Road.
Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. 3801 W. Ridge Road.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Vangie’s name be directed to a charity of your choice.
