Eugenia Liniewicz

Eugenia Schnell Liniewicz, age 95, of Erie, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2023.

She was born in Milorow, Ukraine on June 14, 1928, a daughter to the late Elinda (Hulav) and Nikolaus Schnell.

She worked as a Nurse Aide at St. Mary’s East for many years and then retired from St. Vincent as a transport tech. Following retirement Eugenia lived in various places moving from Erie to Houston, TX in 2007 and then to Jacksonville, FL in 2011, back to Erie in 2021. Besides the moves, Eugenia was a world traveler, from Germany, Austria, and Italy to Coast to Coast of the United States. She resided in Kyiv, Ukraine until World War II started. She moved throughout Russia, Germany, and Poland throughout the war to survive. Eugenia was a work camp survivor. Her mother’s family was part of the Tatar tribe and moved around Siberian Lakes, North in the summer, and south in the winter. Eugenia immigrated to the United States by sponsorship from family, in 1956 to Bronxville, NY. She became a naturalized citizen in 1970.

Eugenia enjoyed puzzles, coloring, playing dominoes, skippo, and various other card games. She loved festivals and fairs, especially the Trokia Festival.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Liniewicz, Sr.; two sons, Leon Liniewicz and Michael Liniewicz Jr.; sister, Olga Nadeschen; and a granddaughter, Emma Ann Witkowski.

Eugenia leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Siegfried Schnell (Sofia); four daughters, Lydia Greaney, Nadine Comeau (Eric Andrews), Anna Witkowski, and Mary Crishock; two sisters, Lydia Schmidt, of Germany, and Natalie Falitmier, of South Carolina; Daughter in law, Lois Liniewicz; four grandchildren, Andrew (Nikki) and Adam (Alex) Witkowski, Elvis MaryShine, Michael Liniewicz III; four great-grandchildren, Raena Mae Belousov, Henrick, Macklin, and Felix Witkowski. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on the family at the Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 4 until the time of memorial service at 6. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Slavic Baptist Church, 449 East 9th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
