Ethel Smith

October 19, 1921 — May 5, 2013

Ethel Mae Smith, age 91, of Erie, went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2013 at Elmwood Gardens.

She was born on October 19, 1921 in Collins, MS, a daughter of the late Louis and Pearl Bird Jenkins.

Ethel Mae attended Collins High School in Collins, MS and was employed at Hamot Medical Center for many years.

She was a past member of the American Business Women's Association and was elected as a Mother at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church where she was very involved as a long time member having a special love for the Missions Committee. She enjoyed and was known for her wonderful cooking and baking. She also loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her spouses George Earl Jackson in 1971 and James Calvin Smith in 2002 along with seven brothers: Hubbard, Andrew, William, Otis, James, Willie Lee, and Lawrence. Two sisters Daisy Richard and Willa Mae Byrd-Issacs also preceded her passing.

Ethel is survived by a son George (Patricia) Jackson of Northfield, OH and two daughters Josephine Jackson-Clark and Anna P. Rentz both of Erie, PA, along with eight grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Friends may call at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2624 German Street, Erie, PA 16504 on Saturday from 10:00 am till the time of service there at 11:00 am with Bishop Jessie Gavin officiating.

Burial in Erie Cemetery.
