Ethel Dwyer

Ethel Mae (Pat)  Dwyer, 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge.
         She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on October 29, 1918, the daughter of the late Patrick Joseph (PJ) and Ethel Lynch Grant.  She married Paul Vincent Dwyer on November 18, 1939 (a union that lasted 67 years until his death) and together they raised five children, all of whom survive her.
    Pat loved her family, friends, playing bridge, the Carmelites, birds, flowers and four-legged creatures.  She never lost her zest for life and was never one to miss a party.  She had the gift of hospitality and gave a warm smile and wave to any and all.
Pat often said, "Growing old is not for sissies," and she proved she was no sissy.
         Besides her husband Paul, Pat was also preceded in death by two brothers; Edward P. and William F. Grant.
      She is survived by her children:  Paul (Sharon) Dwyer of Ft. Myers, Florida/Canandaigua, New York; Ann (Tom Vinca) of Devon, Pennsylvania; Dennis Dwyer of Eatonton, Georgia; Loretta (Craig Schaal) of Erie; Mary Dwyer (Juan Llarena) of Bay Harbor Islands, Florida; her loving sister-in law, Mary Agnes Grant of Erie; 13 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren (and counting).   Her nephew Chris Grant went above and beyond driving her wherever she wanted to go for many years.  
The Family is so grateful for the loving and kind attention Mom received at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge.  
Friends may call in the chapel at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Rd., on Saturday, January 14,2017 from 12 noon until 1:00 PM when a Funeral Mass will be celebrated.   Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carmel of the Holy Family, 510 East Gore Road, Erie, PA  16509 and to St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Road, Erie, Pa 16506.
