Esther Enis

     Esther Duran Enis, 89, of Millcreek Twp., died Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Jameson Hospital, New Castle, PA.  She was born July 6, 1925, in Cranesville, PA, daughter of the late Martin and Susie Hanas Duran.  A 1943 graduate of Albion High School, she was a bookkeeper for Joseph Brothers Furniture Co., Erie for ten years.  For over fifty years she owned Enis & Bloomstrand Upholstery in Erie, retiring in 1995.  She was a member and taught Sunday School at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Erie, where she belonged for over 68 years.  Mrs. Enis belonged to Church Women United and was an active member of Montclair PTA in Millcreek.  She enjoyed knitting and donated many hats and prayer shawls to various charitable organizations.  She also enjoyed baking and was known for her pies and cookies.  She loved attending Elk Creek Schools and high school reunions, never missing one since her graduation, and she loved watching the Andy Griffith Show and knew all of the show's trivia.  As active and involved as she was family always came first.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Enis in 1970, four sisters, and a brother.

     Survivors include a daughter, Heidi Garmon (G. Michael) of New Castle, PA; a son, Brian Paul Enis (Linda) of Grove City, PA; three sisters, Frances Stanford and Kathryn Duran both of Fairview, PA, and Susan Heide of Naples, FL; a brother, Martin Duran, Jr. (Beverly) of Waterford, PA;  six grandchildren, Sarah, Joseph (Lacey), Benjamin and Rachel Enis, and Kelsey and Paul Garmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Friends may call Wednesday 3 to 7 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.  A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m. with Mr. Ron King, Pastoral Assistant of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, officiating.  Private burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 950 W. 7th St., Erie, PA 16502.
