Ersilia C. Thomas age 84 of Erie, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Erie, Pa. on April 25, 1931, a daughter of the late David and Lucille Beard Twitty.
She was a 1949 graduate of Academy High School and worked for many years in various positions including Hamot Hospital and at the US Embassy in Germany, although she always considered her first priority and job was to be a homemaker for the family. Ersila loved to travel all over the world and had many wonderful stories to share. She was a member of New Revelation City of Joy for many years and loved her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas; brothers William Collins, Theodore Lomax, Randolf Butler and Robert Butler.
Ersilia is survived by two daughters: A. Anne Prince and husband Jerry Bo Prince of Erie, PA, Marsha L. Thomas of Bujumbura Burundi, East Africa; four sons: James Thomas and wife Michelle Skyes-Thomas of Denver, CO; David Thomas and wife Denise Jimenez-Thomas of Syracuse, NY; Stephen Thomas and wife Courtney Thomas of Syracuse, NY; Craig Thomas of Erie; two sisters: Venola B. Clanton, of Charlotte, NC, Sandra Christine Poe of Detroit, MI; one brother, Randy Davis and wife Gracee of Erie, PA; 11 grandchildren: Janet Sherman, Catrina Sherman, RaVaire Prince, Jermaine Green, AnnJerrica Hollis, Tonisha Lofton, Michael Thomas, Jeremy Jimenez, Darion James “DJ” Thomas, Dante Thomas and Dannie Thomas; 12 great grandchildren: Alexis Sherman, Caroline Sherman, LexyAnn Prince, Quincy Prince, Alissa Hollis, DeMarco Green, Damien Green, Demitrius Green, Kerrell Fleming, Markell Graves, Joseph Kennedy, Jr., and Jordan Kennedy; and a host of many nieces and nephews.
Private arrangements were under the care of Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie, Pa., 16502. Memorials may be made to Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK., 73101-0036 and to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK., 73123-1718. Burial in Oak Spring Cemetery.
