It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eric J. Menz. He passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Erie, on September 26, 1961 to the late John L. and Mildred A. Knittel Menz.
Eric graduated from Academy High School, before earning a bachelors degree from Edinboro University. He was a project manager for Builders Hardware. Eric played softball for Lefty’s and Goofy’s, he was a member of the Knights of Saint John, the Sunflower Club, the Nuova Aurora Club where he played Bocce, and Eastway Lanes where he bowled. Eric was an expert woodcrafter when it came to making his own furniture. Many people benefited from his talent; he always left people amazed with his workmanship, and took great pride in the work he did. His greatest love was the game of golf. He was happiest on the golf course, especially at his favorite local course, Beechwood. Every year he loved to go to Myrtle Beach with his buddies. Eric was known for his sense of humor and smile, which would bring tears to our eyes laughing, especially with his moves on the dance floor. You knew you were going to have a fun night when you saw this 6’ 3” guy walk in, he will be greatly missed. The angels will be in awe the first time they see his swing on the first tee.
We know you’re at peace now, and we will miss and love you forever. Now you’re in heaven, so behave, and keep your hands to yourself.
Eric is survived by his children Laura and Sarah Menz, his siblings Deborah Ettwein and her husband Duane of Virginia, and Karen Carnes and her husband Jaime of Erie. He is further survived by his nieces, Jill Ettwein and Kelly Carnes, and his nephew Jared Carnes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jan Rothman at the Hillman Cancer Center for his kindness and compassion he showed Eric. They would like to thank the hospice nurses from Asera Care Hospice, especially Maureen and Stacy T.
