Emory Fenn Matteson, 98, of Frostproof, Florida, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015, at his son’s residence.
He was born on December 21, 1916 in Erie, PA to the late Fenn W. and Ida Hain Matteson, and he has been a resident of Florida for 17 years, moving here from Erie, PA.
Emory was a retired sales engineer for American Sterilizer.
He was active in the Frostproof Art Society, and loved living in Frostproof and Leesburg. He was an avid computer buff, loved crossword puzzles and attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and Our Lady of Grace in Avon Park.
Emory was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Matteson in 2011; son, Michael Matteson, and daughter, Melonie Bassett in 2014; brother, Norbert Matteson; and sisters, Rhea Weindorf, Lorna Parker, Elvera Marshall, and Marguerite Weiner.
Survivors include his daughters: Melissa Ranahan of Foxborough, Mass., Kirstin Browning of Tampa, and their mother, Joanna Matteson of Foxborough; son, Emory David Matteson (Kathy) of Frostproof; brother, Ronald Matteson of Okeechobee, FL; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; stepdaughters: Rebecca McLaughlin (Daniel) and Susan Halter; stepsons: Joe Beard and Daniel Beard (Susan); step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road on Saturday, December 5th from 10 am until the memorial service at 11 am with Reverend Michael DeMartinis officiating. Burial in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
