Elizabeth “Lawrie” Griswold McCarthy, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 at her residence. Lawrie was born in Erie on May 16, 1946.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy and Marianne St. Lawrence Griswold and her grandparents Ely and Winnifred Watson Griswold and John and Edith St. Lawrence.
It is also interesting to note that Lawrie was a great-granddaughter of Harrison F. Watson and his wife Carrie T. Watson who built and lived in what is current the Erie Historical Museum.
She is also a direct descendent of Mathew Griswold, founder of the Griswold Manufacturing Company of Erie, PA and their collectible cast-iron products.
She is survived by a brother, Tracy Griswold of Bronxville, NY and cousins John (Carol) Schmid of Madison, Wisconsin and Nicky (Don) Wilson of Scarborough, Maine. Also surviving are God-daughter Marni Loesel and lifelong friend Susie McAllister.
Lawrie graduated from Abbott Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and Syracuse University with a degree in Film Production. In 1968, she married classmate Richard McCarthy. They moved to Sydney Australia in 1973 and started their own film production company “Eureka Productions.” In the course of their career, they won a number of “Clio” awards for outstanding advertising.
Friends are invited to a graveside service on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Reverend Keith Sundberg will conduct the service at the St. Lawrence plot at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Lawrie will be laid to rest with her beloved aunt Jean St. Lawrence.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Erie County Historical Museum, 356 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16507. Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502.
