Elizabeth Mahoney

Elizabeth “Betsy” C. Mahoney passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.  Betsy was born in Erie, the daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth Mahoney.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Parish School, Villa Maria Academy and attended Gannon College.  Betsy worked as a private secretary at Comptech.  Betsy enjoyed golfing and bowling.  Her hobbies included baking and cooking.  She was also an avid reader and loved to travel on vacation with her sister, Sally.  She especially loved cruises.

Betsy was a devout catholic and attended daily mass.  She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.  She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Guild, Siebenbuerger Club, former member of the Erie Maennerchor Club, Saint Marks Auxiliary and the Woman’s Club of Erie.

Betsy is survived by her sister, Sally Mahoney and many nieces and nephews.

Betsy was preceded in death by her brother, James Mahoney and his wife, Mary Ann; sister, Mary Lichtenwalter and her husband, Fred; and her sister, Peggy Watson and her husband, Jack.

A special thank you to Dr. David Hutzel and Jessica on the 4^th floor at UPMC Hamot Hospital who took such excellent care of Betsy.

Betsy had a beautiful smile and will be sadly missed by all.

Friends are invited to call Friday, December 10, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1553 E. Grandview Blvd., from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
