Elizabeth Hornyak

January 4, 1930 — January 27, 2018

Betty J. Hornyak, age 88, of Girard, took her place in Heaven, among the Communion of Saints, on January 27, 2018 at Manchester Commons, her loving daughter, son-in-law and niece, Kathy praying at her side.

She was born on January 4, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Hodanic Pennock, on the family farm, on Stancliff Road in McKean, Pa.

She graduated from McKean High School in 1947 and married John E. Hornyak on October 20, 1951.

Betty lived her Christian life as a good, caring, compassionate, multi-talented and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend to everyone she met.  Through her care, whenever we were sick, she made us well again. Whenever we were hurting, she made it all better.  She loved snowflakes, hummingbirds and bingo.  Her many talents included sewing, quilting, needlework, baking, cooking, gardening and babysitting.  She always applied a large measure of love to everything she did, including the beautiful wedding she planned for her only daughter; the birthday cakes she baked and decorated for family and friends; the cookies she made for weddings, graduations, and class parties; and the lovely heart-shaped cake she baked and decorated for her daughter’s wedding.  She will be remembered as a beautiful being from the inside out because, simply put, she was pure love and every day was a joy to her.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in passing by her brothers, Frank, Mike and William Pennock; and her sisters, Mary Bebko, Margaret Meeder, Helen Silay and Shirley Wilczewski.

Those who are left behind, not only to mourn her passing into eternal peace and tranquility, but to celebrate her life here on Earth are her husband; her deeply-devoted and heart-broken daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Michael Morrison; their children, Brett, Duane, Ward and Sam; her son, James and his wife Nancy; their children, Emily, Ryan, Nicholas, Clayton, Kate and Morgan; a sister-in-law, Marion Pennock; a brother-in-law, Joseph Wilczewski; and her best friend, Pauline Young.  Betty also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, numerous great-grandchildren, and her adoring little grand-puppy Dixie.

Betty’s daughter would like to express her gratitude to the staff at Manchester Commons.  Thank you for your dedication to your work and for all your mighty efforts in caring for my mother and including her in as many activities as she could tolerate.  Betty loved all of you and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.  Thank you so much for the role you played in keeping my mother safe and happy during the final years of her life.  May God continue to bless you every minute of every day.
