Elizabeth “Betty” Vandervoort

August 6, 1921 — June 5, 2018

Elizabeth “Betty” Gabriel Kisko VanDervoort, 96, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Bud” Richard VanDervoort, her daughter, Diane VanDervoort and her two grandsons, David and Gary Hampy. Elizabeth was born on August 6, 1921, to Michael & Elizabeth Kisko in Wilcox, Pa, and was the youngest of 9 children. She met her husband of 73 years, John, at a drinking fountain while working in a shirt factory in Ridgeway, PA. They were married in Wilcox, Pa. on July 18, 1942. Soon after, John & Elizabeth moved to Buffalo, NY where she lived until John’s return from World War II in 1945 when they moved to Erie, PA.

 

Her life thereafter was a dedicated homemaker raising their five daughters. Elizabeth is renown in her family for her sense of humor and enjoyed music and dancing. She was a member of St. Julia Roman Catholic Church and her steadfast devotion to her Catholic faith was the most important gift to her family.

 

She had an ebullient, warm and caring spirit that left her family of four daughters, Claudia Popovic, Laureen Steele Sandberg (David), MaryBeth Trombetta (Rick), and Roslyn Truitt (Danny); 16 Grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild with many wonderful memories.

 

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue,) on Sunday, June 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Monday, June 11th at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue, at 10:30 a.m.

 

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

 

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Great Lakes Hospice for their care and compassion and especially to Carren Cerami.
