Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson Cavanaugh, 79, of Erie, died on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Golden Living Center - Walnut Creek. Formerly of Glenwood Park Ave. She was born on October 2, 1937, in Erie, daughter of the late Calvin Vern and Marian Ann Brei Johnson. A 1955 graduate of McDowell High School, she was an Office Manager for Prudential Insurance for 37 years, retiring in 1994. Betty was a member of her high school class reunion committee, a life member of the Sunflower Club, a former member of Cascade United Methodist Church, enjoyed reading, sewing, camping, gardening, and doing puzzles, and was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Melvin Paul Cavanaugh in 1997, a brother, Alan J. Johnson in 1981, a nephew, Michael A. Johnson in 1981 and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Etter in 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindi Cavanaugh Reynolds and husband Bob of Erie, with whom she resided; a sister, Elaine Etter of Erie; a brother, Norman V. Johnson and wife Carol of Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Nicholas A. Reynolds, Jaime Reynolds (Kyle Czerwinski) and Jason Reynolds, all of Erie, and Daniel Reynolds (Christina Smith) of Magnolia, TX; three great-grandchildren, Kirra Czerwinski and Jace and Jagger Reynolds, and all of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Home Health / Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Suite 244, Erie, PA 16501.
