Elizabeth "Betty" Hanner Zimmerman, 90, of Erie, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at UPMC Hamot. She was born on January 4, 1928, in Waterford, PA, daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Elder Hanner. A 1946 graduate of Waterford High School, she worked for Griffin Manufacturing for over 10 years. She also worked as a receptionist and waitress for Knights of St. John for 25 years, and most recently was a receptionist for the Siebenbuerger Club, retiring in 2010 after 14 years. She was a life member of Knights of St. John and a member of the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching her favorite soap opera "Days of Our Lives", and most of all, she enjoyed her family, time spent in Florida, and being with her longtime companion Richard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Zimmerman in 2007; daughter, Mary Reitz; stepson, David Zimmerman; three sisters, Jacqueline Crosby, Geraldine Lafferty and Judy Albrew; and a great-grandson, Weston Marthers.
Survivors include a son, Mark Marthers (Teri) of McKean, PA; three daughters, Rebecca Hutzler (Joseph), Sandra Sornberger (Robert) and Karen Marthers, all of Erie; three stepchildren, Dale Zimmerman of Erie, Diane Soliwada (Timothy) of Wilmington, DE and Debbie LaRocco (Anthony) of Spokane, WA; a sister, Peggy Brown of Girard, PA; her companion, Richard Ballman and his children, Kenneth Ballman and Gayle Ritter (David), all of Erie; 25 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. A service will be held there Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew R. Judd of Glenwood United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment will be at Valley Cemetery, Waterford.
