Elinor Matts

Elinor “Ellie” Matts, age 83 of Erie, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at St. Mary’s at

Asbury Ridge.

She was born in Erie on January 1, 1930 a daughter of the late Edward “Jimmy” and Goldie Allison Strohm. Ellie was a graduate of Mercyhurst Seminary and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. She worked at Security Bank before becoming a fulltime homemaker.

She was a member of St Jude’s Church, the Erie Yacht Club Auxiliary, the Lakeshore Garden Club, and the Junior League of Erie. Ellie enjoyed many years of gardening, boating, and traveling with her husband and she always looked forward to spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ellie and Chuck were delighted to celebrate their golden anniversary in January by renewing their vows and enjoying a reception with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister: Sally Bauman Schabacker.

She is survived by her husband, whom she married January 26, 1963, Charles “Chuck”

Matts; a son Steven Matts and his wife Anna of Woodbridge, VA; a daughter

Susan Matts Sept and her husband Doug of Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren: Corriene, Connor, Audrey, and Margaret; her sister-in-law Barbara Kolstee of Rochester, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St. Erie,

on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and are invited to a celebration of her life on Friday at 1 pm at St. Jude’s Church, W. 6th Street with Fr. John Detisch officiating.

Inurnment in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
