Eleanor Sample

Eleanor J. Sample, age 85, of Fairview, PA passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Manchester Commons.

She was born in Erie, PA on October 28, 1929, a daughter of the late Newman E. and Gertrude Stafford Brown.

Eleanor graduated from Strong Vincent High School and attended Allegheny College. She was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where she was very active in church activities and sung in the church choir. She was also a member of the Fairview Garden Club, Fairview Historical Society, DAR - Presque Isle Chapter, the Hamot Aid Society, the Penn NY Doll Club and the Presque Isle Doll Club. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, watching her Cleveland Indians, and liked to play bridge and collect dolls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, David M. Sample and brother, Phillip S. Brown.

Eleanor is survived by three daughters, Janet (Clyde) Card of Jamestown, NY, Carol Sample of Fairview, PA and Debbie (Jim) Youngberg of Jamestown, NY; three sons, Duffy (Laurie) Sample of New London, PA, John (Mary) Sample and Steve (Patty) Sample both of Erie; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. and are invited to attend a service at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4264 Avonia Rd, Fairview, PA 16415, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Reverend Charles Cammarata officiating.

Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
