Elaine Frances Cutter Wahrenberger, age 95, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Manchester Commons.
She was born in the Cleveland, OH area on April 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Ralph Williard Cutter and Margurite Bertelle Clark Cutter.
She was a 1944 graduate of Collinwood High School in Cleveland, and attended the Frances Payne Bolten School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University as a member of the Nurses' Cadet Corp. She earned her RN certification and married in 1947, and worked in the health care industry at various places for a short time in Ohio until their first child was born.
In 1960 her family moved to Erie, PA when her husband began working at GE. Their four children ranged from one to eleven years at the time and kept Elaine busy at home. When their two sons were in college and both daughters in school, Elaine went back to nursing. After working nights at Hamot Hospital for a year on the maternity floor, she transferred to Western Reserve Convalescent Home working evenings and then day shift until 1975.
Elaine enjoyed traveling and liked to knit and crochet. She was a member and past elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was a past volunteer and board member for CHOSEN Mission as well as other volunteer activities including with Hospice and Manchester Commons.
In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur G. Wahrenberger in 1988, and her siblings, Marylan Priebe and Betty Bowman.
She is survived by her four children: Douglas (Rhea) Wahrenberger of Oviedo FL, David (Michelle) Wahrenberger of Columbus OH, Patricia (Richard Lecker) Wahrenberger of Minneola FL, and Pamela (Bradley) Bierer of Fairview PA.She is further survived by 13 grandchildren: Brian (Erica) Wahrenberger, Shawn (Yolanda) Wahrenberger, Jason Wahrenberger, and Amanda Wahrenberger; Andrew (Caryn) Wahrenberger, Stephen (Amber) Wahrenberger, and Juliet (Jason) McCartan; Jonathan (Kendall) Lecker and Alyson (Michael) Fagen; Timothy Bierer, Lindsey (Michael) Richards, Jesse (Caitlin) Bierer, and Leah Bierer. 12 great-grandchildren also survive: Zachary and McKenzie Wahrenberger; Seth Wahrenberger; Maeve, Aiden, and Owyn McCartan; Henry and Benjamin Lecker, Tegan Fagan; Riley and Reagan Bierer, and Natalie Richards.
Friends may join the family for a short visitation at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506 on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am, followed by a service at 10:00 am. The family will privately travel afterwards to scatter Elaine's ashes near Woodcock Creek Park where she had scattered her husband's ashes.
