On October 10, Elaine Samilio, daughter of Bessie Starr and Alexander McGregor Thompson passed away with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.
Elaine was creative and brilliant, she graduated ahead of her class and went on to obtain her cosmetology degree. She also was a buyer for a clothing store and a milk tester for the state.
Elaine taught golf to the juniors at Lake Shore where she had a hole in one, and she won the closest to the pin contest at her family reunion: more than once.
She and her husband Jim chaired the Stardust ball numerous times to benefit the Erie Osteopathic Hospital where she was a guild member and did volunteer work.
She knew all the words to every song and sang on Pittsburgh’s KDKA radio when she was three years old.
Elaine had an incredible sense of humor which her family and friends got to enjoy.
Her greatest love and source of joy was her family and always will be.
She was preceded in death by her husband Coston James Samilio, and her siblings Arveta, James, Annabell, Ivan, Belva, Arnold, Doris, Eugene, Louise, and Sonny.
Elaine is survived by her three daughters Lynda Samilio, Cheryl Samilio Meyer, and Jamie Samilio (Sylvia Saluinas), a granddaughter Shannon Swavey (Brian), a Grandson Alec Meyer (Megan), and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lavonne Cherubini (Raymond), a sister-in-Laws, Dorothy Thompson, and Patricia Himes as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.
