Mrs. Elaine Roumfort, 67, went to Heaven on April 13, 2015. She lived her life as an artist and educator, a mother and wife by love, and a Christian by faith in Erie. She lived in Erie since her birth on March 16, 1948.
Elaine met her husband of 43 years, Roger Roumfort, when they attended Edinboro State College together as art majors. Their three children, all raised in Erie, are a testament to their love for each other: Keith Roumfort of Charlotte Hall, MD, Jonathan Roumfort of Indiana, PA, and Ann Simon (David) of Sarver, PA. Elaine loved being a grandmother to her five grandchildren: Andrew, Julia, and Abigail Simon, and Jacob and Joshua Roumfort.
Mrs. Roumfort dreamed of being an art teacher since she was in second grade, and eventually taught art in the Erie School District before she decided to put her creative energies into her family. Elaine was an accomplished flutist in high school, college, and church. She was well regarded for her pastry decorating and fudge.
Elaine held a strong sense of community stewardship. She supported Christian Education and other charitable work with her previous church, the former Sarah Hearn Memorial Presbyterian Church and her current church, Asbury United Methodist Church. She supported Christian Education, which included the North West Covenant Vacation Bible School. Elaine always saw the beautiful handiwork of the Creator in the natural world. She was appointed to the Asbury Woods Nature Center Advisory Board along with doing volunteer work. She served as PTA President at Ridgefield Elementary School.
Her mother, Ruth Mather, and her sisters, Carolyn Mather and Joan Miraszek, all currently reside in Erie. Her father, Francis Mather, preceded her in passing. Aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins live throughout the country.
Instead of flowers please make donations to Asbury United Methodist Church and/or Asbury Woods Nature Center.
