Edward A. Yopek, 52, died at Abington Crest June 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Erie, September 24, 1958, the only son of Stanley Yopek of Erie and also Lottie Carnahan Yopek, also of Erie. He graduated from Academy High School and from Triangle Tech Institute, Erie. He worked as a cook at Holiday Inn Downtown and Gannon University, and as a drummer with the local musical group, The Continentals, and was a member of Local 17 Musicians' Union.
He was very appreciative of his family and the local medical staffs of St. Vincent Health Center and Abington Crest. He loved listening to jazz and similar music as a pastime. He was fair in his opinion of others and rarely critical of anyone. His passing creates deep sorrow within his family.
Survivors include his father, Stanley; his mother, Lottie; stepmother, Joyce Yopek; sisters, Christine Minor of Pgh., Barbara Breeden of Lakeland, FL, Patricia Yopek of Erie and Marcia Staudt (John) of Erie; nieces, Kimberly, Colleen and Josephine; nephew, Michael; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
Friends may call Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St. A service will be held there Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed at 10 by a Mass at Mount Calvary Catholic Church, 2022 East Lake Rd. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery.
