Edward F. Urban, Sr., age 83, formerly of Erie, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 in Temecula, CA. He was surrounded by all of his family in spirit and with his son and caretaker, Ed, Jr. by his side.
Edward was born in Bradford, PA December 11, 1933, the son the late Joseph Urban and Anna M. Waleski Urban.
He was a 1951 graduate of Bradford Senior High School.
Edward served in the U.S. Navy and submarine service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, from 1952 through July 1976. He was employed as a stationary engineer at Lord Corporation for 25 years until his retirement October 1, 1995. Edward attended St. George Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks No. 67, and Moose Club in Erie, the American Legion #285, Waterford; V.F.W. Post No. 3390, the Zukor Club, the Polish Falcons and various other clubs.
Edward was an avid gardener and hunter. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed football, baseball and auto racing. Edward also loved to travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sandra M. Snyder Urban, in 2009, daughter, Rocklynn Ann Swift and son-in-law, William Valerio.
He is survived by two daughters: Victoria A. Shadley and her husband Steven of Goodwater, Alabama and Mrs. William (Sharon Lee) Valerio, Erie; two sons: Charles Alexander Urban and his wife Carol Ann of Eva Beach, Hawaii and Edward F. Urban, Jr. and his wife Christine of Temecula, California, 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Ed is further survived by his and his late wife Sandy’s loved companion dog, Sissy.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell) on Friday, May 5th from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Saturday, May 6th from 10 a.m. until the time of service there at 11:00 a.m.
Interment in Erie County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
