Edward Ruff, Jr.

Edward L. Ruff, Jr., age 63, of Erie, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born in Erie, PA on August 15, 1957, a son of the late Edward L. Ruff, Sr. and Helen Johnson Ruff.

Edward was a 1975 graduate of East High School. He then graduated from Gannon University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. He went on to work for WSEE for 17 years where he directed the 6 and 11 o’clock news. He loved his job and received the Outstanding Employee Award and Employee of the Year in 1989.

He loved music, played the drums, and formed a band during high school with his dear friends John Sestak and Bob Hawryliw. 

He was a Chicago Cubs fan and took several trips to Wrigley Field with his family and one special trip last summer with his son. Edward was also a loyal fan of Duke Basketball and the Miami Dolphins. He loved to bowl and was in a league with his dad and brothers. He made a 7 10 split and won the father son tournament at Rolling Meadows.

He also loved to read. His main interest was history and he collected biographies of all the U.S. Presidents.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Ruff, Janice Stover, Jennifer Emerick, and Karen Gaspard; his sister-in-law, Jackie Ruff and brothers-in law, Jim Stover and Phillip Vannucci and dear niece Lauri Frick.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan Lucas Ruff, a daughter, Brittny Ruff Stewart and son-in-law, Cameron Stewart, son, Edward L. Ruff, III; siblings Gail (Lou) Cilladi, Ray (Sally) Ruff, Jim Ruff, Bonnie Ruff, Lynette Vannucci, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Road, on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 3 p.m. until the time of service there at 6 p.m. with Fr. Michael DeMartinis officiating.  Inurnment in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden will be on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11 a.m.  All CDC guidelines will be followed, capacity limits, social distancing and masks are required.

The family would like to thank all the staff in Dr. Symes office, his PA Ann Schlimm, and the nurses on the 8th floor at St Vincent who provided wonderful care.
