Edward Kaliszewski

April 9, 1940 — July 9, 2018

Edward J. Kaliszewski, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018 at his home in Lawrence Park.  He was born on April 9, 1940, in Erie, son of the late Anthony and Bertha Stuczynski Kaliszewski. 

He graduated from East High School in 1958, where he was an outstanding wrestler attaining the title of City Champ.  He attended Gannon University majoring in marketing and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Conflict.  Ed was a supervisor for Data Entry at General Electric Corp. for 25 years and, along with his wife, co-owned and operated the Union City Dairy Queen for several years.  He also assisted in the operation of The Practice Tee and Lake Erie Driving Range.  Ed was a longtime member of St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church where he was an usher and served on Church Council, and was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, Lawrence Park Athletic Club, East Erie Moose, Wesleyville Athletic Club and American Legion Carl Neff Post 571.  He enjoyed coaching wrestling and Little League, golf, cooking, and being “Mr. Fix-it” for his large family.  Ed was a very special man and will forever be remembered for his warm smile and sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Geesey, Patricia Kaliszewski and Margaret Jez.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years and love of his life, Rita Drexler Kaliszewski; three daughters, Mary Steen and fiancé William Hines, Jr. of Lawrence Park and Kathryn Kaliszewski and Joan Ohar and husband Danny, all of Coatesville, Pa.; three sons, Michael Kaliszewski and wife Penny of Erie, William Kaliszewski of Lawrence Park and Richard Kaliszewski and wife Bonnie of Harborcreek; a sister, Carol Peterson and husband Curtis of Athens, TN; two brothers, Joe Kaliszewski of Erie and Tom Kaliszewski and wife Diane of Meadville, Pa.  He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Bradley and Kelsey Steen; Allison, Kyle and Shane Kaliszewski; Ryan, Kate and Emma Ohar; and Robert and David Kaliszewski; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Great Lakes Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Ed.

Friends may call Thursday at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, from 4 until 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mark The Evangelist R.C. Church at 11 a.m.  Private interment will be in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden with full military honors.
