Edward B. Hydzik age 97 of Millcreek died on Saturday March 18, 2017 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Pittsburgh on January 8, 1920 the son of the late Joseph and Mary Dziuban Hydzik.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He served in Europe as a Gunner Corporal with the 967 F.A. Battalion. He was employed by U.S. Steel, Ambridge, PA for over 40 years. He relocated to Erie from Aliquippa in 1982 and was a member of St. Jude’s Church.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ann Hydzik and four sisters Kathy Kolar, Jenny Byrne, Helen Osterling, Dorothy Homko.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Horton and her husband James of Avon Lake, OH and Mary Ann Jakubowski and her husband Tom of Erie; a son, Edward J. Hydzik and his wife Cathy of Sewickley, PA; a brother, Joe Petrina of Ambridge, PA and a dear friend Rose Root. Further survived by seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Ave. on Monday March 20th from 10:30-11:30am and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th St., Erie, PA 16505 on Monday at 12:15pm with Rev. Jason Feigh presiding. Private burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
