Edward Hudson V.

November 18, 1947 — December 10, 2018

Edward J. Hudson V, age 71, of Fairview, died on December 10, 2018 after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed at home with his loving wife Susan and his family by his side. He was born November 18, 1947 to the late Margaret and Edward Hudson in Cleveland, OH.

He was the beloved husband of Susan and father to Erin (Todd Tornstrom), Edward VI (Jennifer), Matthew (Elena) and Mary (Brian Mocz).  He was an amazing grandfather to Benjamin, Braden, Edward VII, Norah, James, Noah, Joaquin, Gabriel, Ashlyn, Taylor and Avery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Katherine Lince.

Ed was a 1966 graduate of St Joseph High School in Cleveland. He received a bachelor’s degree from Gannon University in 1970. At Gannon he was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) and made many lifelong friends while in college. He received his MBA from Rockhurst College in Kansas City. He worked for Eastman Kodak Company in their Business Systems Division for several years, then Scantron until his retirement in 2015.

He and his wife were longtime members of St Jude the Apostle Church where he never hesitated to volunteer for a wide variety of committees and projects. He put much time and effort in the Corvette raffle for several years. He worked many hours at the overflow homeless shelter sponsored by St Jude’s. He was also an active 4th degree member in the Knights of Columbus.   In the 1990’s, he was active with the Cathedral Prep hockey team and the Lake Shore Hockey League.

He had a great interest in cars. He could tell you the year, make and model of any car he saw on the road, he especially like older cars, MGs and Corvettes, which might explain why there was always a fun convertible in the garage.

Additionally, his many hobbies included spending time with family, exercising, yard work and “adopting/rescuing” dogs from his daughters who didn’t always think through the concept of dog ownership. He was an avid runner and prided himself in the fact that he ran over 30,000 miles in his lifetime.

He loved to drink unique beers, especially in the company of his sons, while ignoring the screeching of grandchildren gone wild. He was also a Cleveland sports fan and that obviously left him in a constant state of disappointment, however, in Heaven, Cleveland always wins.

Life lessons of all types could be learned by watching how Ed lived. If you want something work for it, if you love someone take care of them, if anyone you meet needs something that you can provide, give it to them. Own your mistakes. Love your children. Honor God in all you do, be kind, be honest. Ed is truly an exceptional man. His devotion to his family ensures that he is most definitely still here with us and the world is a better place because of him.
