Edward Heubel

August 29, 1960 — August 2, 2018

Edward M. Heubel, age 57, of Erie, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the son of the late Edward J. Heubel and Helen (Bierbauer) Heubel Trask, and the stepson of Donald Trask who survive him.

He was born in Erie, PA on August 29, 1960. He attended the former Mount Calvary Elementary School, and graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in 1979. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gannon University.

He launched his career in Engineering as a draftsman at Zurn Mechanical Drives in Erie, later moving to Zurn Energy Division and Aalborg Industries to work in the field of heat recovery steam generation. He joined the Power Plant Engineering division of GE International in Schenectady, NY in 1999 and built a successful career which took him around the globe. He was instrumental in the construction, product procurement and aftermarket servicing of power plants in the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.

Ed was a self-motivated, analytical and hard-driving individual who was determined to live his life and face his illness on his own terms. He was not one to back away from conflict or leave circumstances to chance. He set the bar very high for himself and expected the same of others.

Besides his career, Ed’s passions included hunting and fishing with family and friends, and spending time at the Houseboat he built on Horseshoe Pond at Presque Isle State Park.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Burkholder. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, his wife Janet (Kalie) Heubel, his daughter Amanda Howard, his sons Edward J. Heubel II and Joshua Heubel, and his grandchildren Ameilla and Broderick Howard. Also surviving are his sisters Kathleen Volgstadt and Barbara Paszkowski, and his brother Gary Heubel Sr.
