Eddie James Mitchell Sr., age 64, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday July 2, 2013. He was born in Quitman, Mississippi on November 1, 1948 son of the late Eddie and Mandy Jones Mitchell.
Eddie attended Shirley Owens High School and served briefly in the Army. He was a hard worker for AA Anthony and also founded Ed Mitchell Concrete Construction. He was baptized at an early age and his faith in God grew over the years, especially in his final years. In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed watching Nascar and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Club Country Fair. He was a friend to everyone he met and had the largest, loudest laugh this side of Mississippi. His purpose in life was to be the type of father to his children that his father was to him. He was so proud of his kids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Lee Mitchell, and his nephew Anthony Leashore.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Louise; his two daughters: Amanda (Carlos) Ortiz and Tina Elizabeth (Thurl) Moore; his two sons: Eddie James (Lilly) Mitchell Jr. and Robert (Kristina) Morrow; grandchildren: Ciara and Carlos Ortiz ; Marcus Mitchell, Tara Morrow (Ken) Palmer, Robert Jr. (Courtney), Jacob Sack and Bryan Larsen; Kisha and Thurl (Trey) Moore; great-grandchildren: Jazzy, Aiden, and Anthony; and step children: Michael Evans, Adebola Odubiro. He is further survived by his sisters: Ruby Lee (Leroy) Chapman, Rosie Lee (Gregory) George, Ethel Dean Mitchell and Wendy Joyce Mitchell; and brothers: Ernest Lee (Louann) Mitchell and Arthur James (Gail) Mitchell. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews, and Sadie Baby, the most loving pet.
The family would like to send a special thank you to UPMC Hamot, the doctors and staff at the Regional Cancer Center, and Great Lakes Hospice for all they did for Eddie.
Friends may call at the Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th Street, Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service there at 12:00 pm. with Rev. Allen B. Green presiding. Arrangements by Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St.
