Dr. Robert A. Kazmaier, PhD

Dr. Robert A. Kazmaier, PhD, age 89, died Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the WellStar Hospice in Austell, GA. He was born in Erie on December 23, 1933, the son of the late Otto and Edith (Manda) Kazmaier.

Robert was a 1952 graduate of Cathedral Prep and a 1956 graduate from Gannon College. He later received his Masters from Northwestern University and his Doctorate from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Kazmaier served with the US Army for two years in Germany and was a professor of English at the University of Alabama in Birmingham for 28 years. He was also employed as the City Editor of the Kewanee Star-Courier in Illinois and the night city editor of the Albany Times Union in New York.

He was a former member of St. Peter Cathedral in Erie and St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Birmingham.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers; Donald P. Kazmaier, Otto Kazmaier, Charles Cuff, James Cuff, and William Cuff.

Robert is survived by several nieces and nephews and his dear friend, Gwen Pennington.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th St. on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at which time Funeral Services will be held. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
