Dr. Lee H. McVey age 84, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.
He was born in Media, PA on May 3, 1937, the youngest child of the late David Shaw and Grace Haines McVey.
Lee graduated from Media High School, Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1962, his first position was in a large animal practice in Hanover, PA. In 1967, he became a partner at the Glenwood Pet Hospital in Erie, where he practiced for 38 years.
Lee was a devoted husband, son and brother, and a loving father and grandfather. He was a long-time member of Wayside Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years and was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association. He was also an avid gardener who took great pride in designing and maintaining the yard and gardens of his homes in Erie and Pine Island, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his late wife of 58 years, Dorothy “Peach” McVey and his siblings Walter Roland McVey and Ruth Dean Olson. He is survived by his four children, Jeff McVey (Devon) of Philadelphia, J. Todd McVey (Kathleen) of Cleveland, Jana McVey of Erie, and Jenni McVey (Matthew) of Oregon; seven grandchildren, David, Matthew and Ellen McVey; Tanner, Kristin, and Lily Babb, and Evelyn Eggers.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a service on Saturday September 11, 2021 at 3:00 pm. at Wayside Presbyterian Church 1208 Asbury Rd. Erie, PA 16505. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Erie Humane Society or the Wayside Presbyterian Church.
