Dr. Elmer Stevens

The family of Dr. Elmer J. Stevens age 87, of Erie, mourn his passing on May 24^th, 2018 at St. Mary’s Asbury Nursing Home.

Dr. Stevens was born June 12, 1930 in New Kensington, PA the son of the late Dr. Elmer and Edythe Bole Stevens.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, he served in the U.S. Navy as an officer practicing Dentistry.  Following his military service, he returned to Pittsburgh where he completed his training in Oral Surgery. He then moved to Erie where he practiced Oral Surgery for 35 years with his brother, Dr. Richard Stevens who passed in 2001. Stevens Oral Surgery was joined by Dr. A. Paul King and renamed Stevens-King Oral Surgery.

Dr. Stevens was a member of the Erie County Dental Society until his retirement, Kahkwa Country Club and the Erie Yacht Club. He will be missed by his family, patients and friends for his kindness and great sense of humor.

Dr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Neumann Stevens. They shared their love for travel, boating, tennis and enjoyed wintering in Longboat Key, Florida.  Dr. Stevens is further survived by his two sons, Todd Stevens of Scottsdale, AZ and Dr. Scott Stevens, Erie, PA.  Also surviving is his grandson Chase of NYC, his sister Shirley Snyder of Attelboro, Ma.; sister-in-law, Pauline Stevens, Fairview, PA, brother-in-law, David (Grace) Neumann Pittsburgh, PA.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26^th Street, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service there at 2 p.m. with Deacon Tony Alleruzzo. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
