Douglas M. Smith, age 67, of Girard, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born in Erie on May 19, 1950, a son of the late Ellsworth and M. Irene Stevens Smith.
Doug attended Fairview High School. He was in construction his whole life. Started his own business, Smith Drywall and then worked for Odyssey Builders and spent most of his career at Site-Blauvelt Engineers, Inc. as a bridge beam inspector.
He loved fishing, hunting and golfing. He was a master tinkerer and king of unfinished projects. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Smith in 2011.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda L. Metzler Smith; his children, Thomas S. Smith and his wife Kristi of Millcreek, and Keri Smith Badaracco and her husband, Mike of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Michael and Sara Badaracco; two sisters, Carol Swisher, of Henderson, NV, and Shirley Anderson of Costa Rica; a brother, Dennis Smith and his wife Dolores of Erie. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews and aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Friday from 3pm until the time of the prayer service at 7 pm with Robert Pettis officiating.
Burial will be at Girard Cemetery.
