Douglas Lowry

Douglas W. Lowry, age 65, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday April 8, 2014, at his residence, from complications due to exposure of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War

He was born October 5, 1948 in Erie, the son of the late James Guy and Elizabeth Zell Lowry.

Doug graduated from Fairview High School and served in the U.S Army during Vietnam attaining the rank of Sargent. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from I.U.P, attended Gannon University and obtained his Master’s Degree from Penn State University. Doug worked as a parole supervisor for the PA Board of Probation and Parole for 37 years. He was a member of the F.O.P, Siebenbuerger Club, West Springfield V.F.W, Girard American Legion Post 494 and was a member of the W. Springfield Methodist Church for many years. Doug loved reading, playing golf and eating at Taco Bell. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Penn State Nittany Lions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Guy Lowry.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marybeth Balkovic Lowry; a daughter, Allyson Lowry of W. Springfield and a son, William “Bill” Lowry of Spring Grove, PA; and a sister, Jan Lowry Hubbard and her husband, George of Burlington, VT. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday from 4-6pm and Sunday 1-4 and 6-8pm at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard. Funeral Services will be Monday April 14 at 11am at West Springfield Methodist Church, 13790 Chestnut St, West Springfield with Reverend Annette Gerber officiating. The F.O.P will hold a prayer service at 3 p.m on Sunday.
