Douglas Dias, age 74, of Erie, passed away May 23, 2021 at Edinboro Manor.
He was born in Erie on December 19, 1946, a son of the late Melville Dias and Vera Dias Flick.
After graduation from Strong Vincent High School, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received five meritorious awards.
Doug retired from Accutool, where he was a skilled tool and die maker, creating precision dies and tools.
He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, American Legion, and the VFW.
He was an avid football card collector, and enjoyed bowling. On one memorable occasion, he and his son, Dave, both bowled a 300 game in the same league, same team, same night and same lane.
Doug loved the Christmas holidays where he would set up the tree, decorate the front porch and spend time with his son and family while enjoying a meal, a large variety of home baked goodies, and exchanging gifts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Sihto Dias who died in February 2021; Melville’s wife, Betty Dias and Vera’s husband, Charlie Flick; and his brother, Bruce Dias; and his pet dog, Gin Gin.
He is survived by his son, David (Clare) Dias; his granddaughters, Samantha Goggins (Charlie), Kelsey Dias and Nicole Dias; sisters-in-law, Pat Leone (Joe) and Lois Bucheral; brothers-in-law, Bob Sihto (Barb), Dave Sihto (Gay), Paul Sihto and Stan Buzard. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to LECOM Hospice for their compassionate care during a difficult time; and to Patty and Joe Leone for always being there when needed.
Special thanks to the VA for providing Doug with care throughout the years.
