Dorothy Burwell Walters age 88, formerly of Abilene, KS, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Erie, Pa.
She was born in Abilene, Kansas on June 6, 1924 a daughter of the late Dallas and Helen Shuey Burwell. She was a 1943 graduate of Abilene High School and served during WWII in the US Army. During her time of service she met her husband Russell Walters and raised three children while working full Time as an SPD Supervisor for forty years at both the Abilene Memorial Hospital and the Geary County Hospital in Junction City, KS. In later years she enjoyed reading and making punch rugs. In addition to her parents and spouse, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers Earl and Ivan, "Buddy" along with a granddaughter, Nicole Marie Walters.
She is survived by her children, Aletha (Walters) Bartone and her husband Ron of Erie, Pa., Robert Walters and his wife Lynnette, of Surprise, AZ and Kenneth Walters and his wife Deanne of Abilene, KS. She also leaves six grandchildren; Jeff Pelkowski, Jennifer Zajac "Gary", Shawn Walters "Mindy", Amanda Aguon "Joe", Russell Walters "Jennifer", and Richard Walters "Allea". Dorothy is further survived by four great grandchildren; Amber, Ian, and Roman Pelkowski along with Jasper Aguon. A nephew, Billy Lee Burwell also survives.
Private arrangements were under the care of Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie, Pa. 16502. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to; Regional Home Health and Hospice, 3526 Peach Street, Erie, Pa., 16508 or to The Humane Society of NWPA, 2407 Zimmerly Rd., Erie, Pa., 16506.
