Dorothy Jean Vollmer, born November 15, 1930, entered her eternal home with Jesus and her husband on November 19, 2021. She passed away at St. Mary’s Asbury Ridge with her loving family at her side. Dorothy was the eldest child of the late Norman and Emma Pude Vogt.
Dorothy graduated from Academy High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Metropolitan Life, Dailey Chevrolet, and Eckerd’s Drug Store. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Erie and was a member of Koinonia of Erie County, K174. She and Dick were married 63 years and were very devoted to each other. They loved to ride around the peninsula and grab a bite to eat afterwards. Dorothy enjoyed bowling and had belonged to several bowling leagues. She was an avid reader and loved to share books with her family. She also enjoyed genealogy and had created legacy books for family members. Her labor of love is greatly appreciated. She also loved spending time with her family and was an important part of every holiday, birthday party and gathering. Dorothy often traveled with Dick, her siblings and other family members. She loved to tell the story of traveling to California by train to visit family and Disney World. She was a spunky and stubborn lady who was loved deeply by her family.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Richard Vollmer, in November 2020. She has missed him dearly since his passing and looked forward to being with him again. She was further predeceased by her brothers-in-law Sam Watkins, Clifford Johnson, William Vollmer and sisters-in-law Janice Vogt and Susan Vollmer.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her beloved sisters, Lois (Lowell) Askounes, Carol Watkins, Linda Johnson, and brother Norman Vogt. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Emily Hirsch, Diane Askounes, Lori Matlak and Gary Askounes who loved her as their “second mother.”
