Dorothy Swartzell

July 29, 1920 — March 22, 2016

Dorothy Jean Weismore Swartzell, age 95, of Fairview, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Manchester Commons.

She was born in Erie on July 29, 1920, the daughter of the late George T. Weismore and Bessie Moore Weismore Weinheimer.

She graduated from Academy High School. During WWII, Dorothy worked as a switchboard operator for General Telephone, later working in the retail industry at Trask, Prescott & Richardson Department Store. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Swartzell, who passed away April 28, 2013. Dorothy and Wilbur had been married for nearly 73 years.

She is survived by her daughter; Barbara Wagner and her husband David of Edinboro; a son; David Swartzell and his wife Dorothy of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren: Robert Wagner and his wife Amy, Andrea Swartzell, Michael Swartzell and his wife Brittany; four great-grandchildren: Joseph & Grace Wagner, Mackenzie & Ethan Swartzell and her cousin, Glenn Warnaka of State College, PA.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, Inc., 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue), on Friday, April 1st, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of service there at 11 a.m. with Reverend Keith Sundberg and Dr. James Burkhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery.

The family also wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Manchester Commons Woodside Place for the care they gave to Dorothy.
